Banyan Group — property developer

About the company

Banyan Group is an international hospitality group whose brands include Banyan Tree, Angsana, Cassia, Dhawa, Garrya, Homm, Folio and Laguna. The listed entity is Banyan Tree Holdings Limited, traded on the Singapore Exchange since 2006 under the ticker B58. The group traces its origins to 1994, when its first Banyan Tree resort opened in Phuket. Today it operates more than 100 hotels and resorts in 23 countries and three integrated resorts: Laguna Phuket, Laguna Bintan in Indonesia and Laguna Lăng Cô in Vietnam.

Thailand is the group’s historical base. In 1984 its subsidiary Laguna Resorts & Hotels acquired more than 550 acres of a former tin-mine site on Bang Tao Bay, which became Laguna Phuket: more than 1,000 acres with a 3-km beach and six hotels. The group still runs Laguna Phuket through that subsidiary.

What their projects are like

Residential sales date back to 1993, when the Allamanda condominium went on sale inside Laguna. The first Banyan Tree Residences followed in 1997, Laguna Property began operating in 2001, and Laguna Shores was rebranded as Cassia in 2014. Since 2024 the residential arm has traded as Banyan Group Residences. The range spans several segments, from Banyan Tree-branded villas to compact Skypark and Cassia apartments sold with hotel-style services.

Projects in Thailand

  • Laguna Phuket (Bang Tao): Banyan Tree Grand Residences and the Banyan Tree Beach Residences series, Laguna Lake Residences Aster (seven storeys, 60-metre rooftop infinity pool), Laguna Beach Residences Bayside (launched 2024, two blocks along a canal), Skypark Celeste and Skypark Elara, Cassia Phuket and Angsana Oceanview Residences.
  • Elsewhere: Banyan Tree Residences Riverside in Bangkok, Banyan Tree Residences Creston Hill in Khao Yai, Banyan Tree Residences Sichon in Nakhon Si Thammarat, plus Skypark Lucean in Jomtien, co-launched in 2023 with the developer Lunique Real Estate.
  • Cassia Residences Rama 9 (Bangkok) carries the Cassia brand, but according to Banyan Group Residences itself the developer is Siamese Asset PCL.

What buyers should check

  • Brand versus developer. In branded residences the brand and the developer may differ, as with Cassia Residences Rama 9 or Skypark Lucean. Confirm who is selling and who is responsible for construction and management.
  • Resort-level charges. Inside Laguna Phuket there may be charges for resort infrastructure on top of the building’s own fees, so ask for the full list of monthly costs.
  • Rental programmes. If the unit will be let through the group’s management company, review the contract, fees and any limits on owner use.
  • Villa or condo. A foreigner can own a condominium unit freehold within the 49% quota, while villas and townhouses are usually held through a long-term land lease. Clarify the deal structure before reserving.
